Ford F-150 57" vs Chevy 63" on 84 4Runner
« on: Jun 28, 2005, 10:48:21 AM »
I was going to build an 85 truck and was going to use some 57" Ford F-150 2wd rear springs.  I ended up buying them and they are sitting in my garage.  Well, projects change and I bought an 84 4Runner so my little girl can have a seat as well.  I'm still going to do the rears up front but for the rear of the 4Runner, I am kinda back to sqaure one.  I didn't think the chevies would work well on the truck with a flatbed so that is why I went with the Fords.  Now, I'm looking to have some weight on the rear of this 4Runner.  I plan on building a rear bumper and swing-out tire carrier.  I plan on running the hard top for the winters.

Would the chevy springs be a better canidate for the 4Runner over the f-150's???

Thanks
Aaron

I have some Mazda Springs (Comparable to the F150's) on my 4 running with a buggy leaf and it works out awesome.  I personally think that the Chevy's are to stiff.  I haven't seen a rig yet with those springs that I've been to excited about. Just my  :twocents:

Any more pics of your buggy leaf?  Did you have to do any trimming in the rear to make those tires fit?  Nice flex shot in the avatar    How does the buggy leaf ride in town and on the highway?

Mr4x42u is running chevies and a 5" shackle with a johnny join hanger for the shackle.  They wrk great under a heavy runner.  Mazda's will break pretty easily and dropaway shackles and buggies are axle wrap machines.  Unloading sucks....
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I'm using 2 inch blocks and 7 inch eye to eye shackles.  I don't notice any problems on road because I just tighten up my front Rancho9000's and regarding axle wrap....don't seem to have any problems at all.  Blocks aren't bad if you weld them in and make sure you get those ubolts nice and tight.  I did a ubolt flip when I put the blocks in and I couldn't be happier.  I'll try to get more close up shots of the suspension to post later.

I'm running the 150's with a 2" add a leaf on my '90. Works great. The add a leaf firmed them up a bit, and there isn't as much over hang as the chevy's.

ive always used long chev leaves, i like how soft they are and they have an abundant amout of travel when set up right, i could out flex my freind who had the same springs with dropdowns, and i didnt have dropdowns, just a shackle
