Running propane on a 22R
« on: Jun 22, 2005, 10:13:53 AM »
I've searched, been to gotpropane.com and it seems like one of the better alteraives to swaping to EFI.  Does anybody here run the gotpropane kit for the 22R?  I'm really interested in it and have heard good things about it.

Thanks
Aaron

I like the propane because its so simple,,no wires,,no sensors,,no computers,,just a few hoses and a throttle body basicly..its a super clean set up and works every bit as good as efi with out all the crap..Powerwise i think its close to the same,,even if you want more power its a super simple set up to go turbo with the propane,,,propane is 110 octane so detonation will be almost nonexistant and  I think you would have half the problems of a turbo on a gas engine..

i don't run propane,,but know many who do..soon i will have propane,,,soon.. :crossed:

What kinds of tanks are they running?  Where and how much as well?  I'm thinking that once I got rid of the gas tank, I could mount a couple of 10 gallon forklift tanks where the gas tank used to be.  How tough are they going to be to fill up under the 4runner like that?  I'm trying to convence my dad that propane is the way to go on these engines and he's not buying it all that well.  He thinks the HP will go down and I've read where you can gain some.

The propane claim is its the same hp gas or propane..I doubt i would put it under the rig..maybe a small tank as back up,,but you will want all that stuiff gones under there,,just cause its a pain to hang up on stuff under there..Like I said,,if you want more hp turbo goes with propane killer because of the octane in propane is 110..  $1.89 is chaep too compared to 2+$ a gallon for gas..
1 large propane tank will be plenty for a day or two..I hear 7-12 hrs out of a tank,,I'm sure it depoends on the rig,,load and use of the skinny pedal..

what's considered large that you've seen for propane?  10 gallon?  Bigger than that?

The tank in the bed of this truck, how large is that and do you think it would fit under the 4Runner in the stock gas tank location?  Is it safe to have a propane tank like that under the truck?  Sorry for the questions, just worried about spending $900 on the system and not having it work out real well for me.

I've love to go turbo and propane but on the engine I'm running, it's barely making it NA

i went propane with my last ride. it was great, we have forklifts at work and i would just swipe out tanks. don't put it under your truck and buy a back up at your house. alsooo get the adapter for the bbq gril tank. i've had to get propane from home depo and wali world in a pinch. other then not really having a fuel gage and finding places to fill its a great idea. ( if you role your engine will not shut off so you might want to think about a kill switch. )
I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~
