A few of my fellow club members have exo's they swear by them and I have to admit that they have saved them from damage a few times, but we did have someone that was not a club member go out with us once and he rolled it on Empire Strikes Back in Stoddard Valley. It did hold up but the cage actually damaged the cab. The cab shifted and hit the cage crushing down on it. Here are pics of my club members exo's:

Up here in the north west exo's can hang you up on EVERYTHING badly.  But thats mainly only in the Rimrock area where the tree's are flatfender width and you have to wedge your rig into them.  Im going to do a partial exo when I do the rest of my cage but its'll only be there to protect the A-pillars and the roof line.  The b pillar and rear of the cab will be set half inside of the cab so it'll still be a smooth trasition over the tubes.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I was sold on one at one time,,,now i just think there not all that..I can go places, and take lines that those with an exo can't,,they just simply have too much weight over the roof..and as far as damage goes,,that also a debate..Last weekend I saw trucks with nice exo cages take lots of damage...I can see an advantage of an exo to save the a pillar,,but a big heavy exo  over the cab just don't seem the way to go..if you bulkd them strong there too heavy,,if you build them light,,they don't work..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

Personally, I think it's a fad, kinda like bell-bottom pants. I don't really have a problem with them on a truck that is already thrashed, but to take a decent looking truck, and cut it up to put on an exo, I think is foolish.

I think Mr4x42u is right. They add a whole bunch of upper weight, and their benefit is questionable.

Just my $0.02.

I'm looking into it for the extra room in the cab but, like WT said the trails can be tight here.

Well I've seen exo's prevent damage to vehicles in tight spots where the exo dragged on the wall, and seen some vehicles in the same spot tear up the tops of the vehicle. Mostly on Jeeps and Sammi's, for some reason when pickups or suv's went through the same spot they never got even close to scraping.

Ya, ya :blah: :blah: But they mostly get you stuck where the sheetmetal would make you slide easily through. I say interior cage and a sledgehammer is the way to go, its easy too ! :driving:  :yesnod:

I don't know if you have noticed that there are some people that don't want to tear up their investment. I sure don't want to bend up my truck and take care and pride on getting through and obstacle without leaving half of my rig behind. Not that I haven't hit stuff like at the moment I'm shopping for  a new tcase crossmember, but for the most part my truck has very little body damage and I would like to keep it that way. Personally I don't see the need for an exo but there are others that wheel harder than I that like a simi straight body that do grind thos exo's on the rocks. Some people still do drive their rig to the trail and want them kinda legal for the street. A bent up POS looking vehicle willl draw the attention of the local PD even if the drivetrain is worth thousands.

I have 127 1/2" 's of wheelbase.  I dare you to drive my limo through any tight spot and not put a dent in it. :gap:  It isnt gonna happen, if I had an exo Id most likely still be wedged in the rocks somewhere.  but I have no problem uhhh adjusting the sheetmetal to allow me to continue on. ;)

My truck sees a lot more street time than you'd think.  I drive it everywhere I go wheeling and I dont have any issues with the popo's but Im a really lucky bastage too. :hahaha:

I like them....They do help IF THEY ARE BUILT RIGHT!   That means connect it to a frame, put gussets all 'round, and connect it in as many places as possible.....But to each his own. I would like not to destroy my rig(if I could ever get it on the trail) :driving:    I'm probably going interior and a partial exo

I've yet to see the perfact exo, I'm always seeing where they needed to add reinforcement.

I don't see a bed. :headscratch:

The exo was recently built by Bender from the Tinbenders for a friend of mine. Still not quite ready for the trail but will soon be tearing it up on a trail near you.

Thats the spirit  I think a non-straight sheetmetal rig have style and character too :gap:
But dont the PD care about those jungle gymed, outsticking tubing rigs ? Dont they think THAT is dangerous ?

A exterior cage isnt a real cage IMO :lipsrsealed:
