Got my beadlocks today and welded them on. these are a new design from Alchemy Metalwerks out of Bend $240 a set.
they weighed in at 14 lbs a set (rings for one wheel)

Did your tires come in yet?

So who did you pay to do the welding for ya?  I know you cant weld that good....   Get a caulking tube of clear silicone and go over the welds.  Let the silicone set ofr about an hour then mount the tires.  that gives the silicone time to set up on the surface and the innside is still soft so the air pressure will force the silicone into any pin holes that may be there. ;)

Why do I believe that?

When you mount the tires your best bet is to put it on a bucket when you go to air them up.  With a bucket supporting the wheel you can push the tire down to seat the inner bead easily.  If not for the bucket my tires would have NEVER been mounted.  I had to basically lay across the tire while I put air into them.  Stiff sidewall bastids...

KYOTA

how many tubes of sillycoon did you go thru per wheel again?

WHITE_TRASH

I just used 1 caulking tube it was cheaper than buying it in smaller tubes.

I didnt weld mine up.  I had a buddy do it.  I know my welds dont look nearly as good. ;)  It was just a precaution.

I'll put a coat of sillycoon on the welds and a bead on the inside of the ring too (backside of ring, where it sits in the rim)

WHITE_TRASH

Good idea.  I was going to do that but I havent yet...  Im too damned lazy.  I did paint the backside of the inner ring though and i have yet to see any rust.  Im just lucky so far I think.

How tough is it to weld the bead locks to the wheels?  I'm a newbie welder and I don't want to get myself into it too deep.  Can they be tig'ed or is mig welding them the best bet?

Its cake to do the most important part is getting them centered correctly.  If you have a good hot welder then Id say go for it.  I only had a 110 so I tacked the rings and had a buddy finish weld them with a miller 225.

SWEET!  Now get off the 'puter and get your arse out there and mount them up!  Remember at least 2 shots of quicksilver bb's each tire.

KYOTA

just put the gumpucky on the wheels so they need to sit for a bit and Ima go with 2 baseballs per  :gap:

WHITE_TRASH

I wouldnt do it.  The weight is there but it cant be distributed like bb's can.  Trust me Ive tried all kinds of goofy things and bb's rule.  Plus they are cheaper than baseballs.

When I did mine I let the silicone dry for about an hour so it was dry to the touch but you could still feel that it was squishy underneath.  I have no leaks so far.

man you really need to lighten up a little IT WAS A JOKE hence the :gap: smiley  ;) <<<<<

WHITE_TRASH

Golf balls work well for semi steer tires.  I know a lot of truckers that do that and they have been impressed with them.  So ya never know what some backwodds billhilly could come up with next. :gap:

well I got all the tires mounted on the rims but only bolted and torqued two wheels up. very time consuming torquing 32 bolts to 15lbs after about the third time of criss cross pattern they finally held a torque

KYOTA

alls I need now is a set of zoomys stickin out the sides  :talkingn:
