Good enough for photo stock?

So I'm thinking of submitting my photos for photography stock (outside company manages your photos, sells them & rents them) which would be quite profitable for me.

Please criticise these photo's, no holding back, pick out the very worst and let me know.

Damn dude you have some tallent for photography.I think the pic of the river is the best,but they are all really good.

what I don't like...is that you're too friggin good! Ok, seriously...I really like the shot of the exploratorium. One thing I've noticed about popular stock photos is that they're often of odd or bizarre things, that can easily be manipulated on the comp. They're all awesome, except, I can't really think what you could do with that one of the duck. Cool yes, but would it really be profitable to submit that one?

I have the same feeling about the duck & the seagull, nice pic, but would it be used in advertising? Probably not.

not a problem. I like getting (constructive!) criticism for the things I do, so I try to give as good as I get. Have you ever heard of deviantart.com? it's a humongous art site, all different types...photography, drawing, you name it. you can submit your artwork, get comments from people, SELL it...pretty cool place. i'm registered there as alyssa2004, same as here. there are a lot of stock photography accounts on there too.

since you asked, I've taken art classes, so I know critiquing...I also fashion myself a bit of a photogra-phobe...or whatever....I'll find some of mine to share if you don't mind

#1 would have been great if the foreground foliage didn't interfere with the background.

#3 you cut off it's head! equal framing between the bottom and the sky would have been awesome.

#4 AWESOME, but I lived there, it makes it look like a big storm moving in. The fog is calm.

Ok, but what don't you like...I need some critizism here...

awwww, to much water, to many birds, too many trees, the moiuntian was to big, the sea gul was to close,  the duck has bad breath,
the seagul would have been better if he was on a freashly waxed car (bmx, jag,rols ect.) I think "mirror lake " would have looked better at night,awwww I'll think of more.

I love the effect of slowing down the shutter to make the water look like that. My old boss was a huge photography fanatic. He used to take backpacking trips to AZ to take pics of the sandstone place??? Cant remember the name but it looked cool. The yosemite is beautiful. As for the pics of the duck and seagull, its kinda boring. Definatly need stuff to look at and keep you busy. Keep up the work By the way, what camera setup do you use?

A Canon EOS Digital Rebel SLR, 1GB Memory Card, 75-300mm Sigma Lens, 19-35 Wide Angle Phoenix Lens, 28-80mm Sigma Lens, 420EX Canon Flash, Stofen's, Shades, blah blah blah. Ya know, the usual.

Your pics are good, but they need to be balanced. Try shooting with a dark UV filter.

Hey Mini,

They all look great to me, but a couple things..

On the first photo, it looks great and unlike MrsW.M., I like the foliage in the foreground. It gives a since of depth and also helps me imagine the area better. However, you have an out-of-place tree branch with green leaves hanging down right in the middle of the other plants. That ruins the whole picture for me, especially since its blocking my view of the tree. Everything is perfect IMO, except for that limb.

And about that duck, its really cool but something isn't working with that pic... I'm not sure, but I think its because his head needs to stand out better. Maybe the rest of his body could have been darker, or his head a bit brighter, or maybe his body could have been blurred more? At first when I looked at it I didn't see its head, I just saw a bunch of feathers and a mouth. Hey remember, I just woke up right now but that's still some criticism!

Mini your bumming me out!     I love taking pictures especially nature, I haven't been able to do it for a while, except for family holiday stuff.  I've got four minolta xg manual cameras, one nikon manual/auto slr, a jcpenny special from the 70's that was manufactured by mamiya, and last x-mas my mom got us a nikon 4800 digital.  Have you got into b&w?  I find it way more challenging, than color!  And I basically agree with the consensus on the vote.  Animal pictures I try to avoid, unless it's just one of those situations that you just can't pass up!  My wife complains that I don't take pictures of our kids enough, my problem I love to try to analyze the scene before taking the pic.  I can't wait my mom just got a nikon d70 with three sets of lenses last summer and she loves it and is talking about upgrading in the near future, and she call's it "Ryan's camera" (that's me) I can't wait till she gets bored with it!!      She's taken some really cool pictures with it, so I can't wait till I get it!  Keep posting them!
