New guy here
« on: May 31, 2005, 12:12:10 PM »
Hey, wassup everybody.  I'm 19 and have an '88 4Runner.  I'm hoping to do a solid axle swap in it real soon.  If anyone could tell me how long it usually takes for stuff to ship.  I want to get it done before I start school.

Anyway, I haven't done much to it yet.  I put an Add-a-leaf in the back, K&N Filter, 31" BFG Mudders, and Warn hub locks.
I've also modified the bumpers and body on some good sized rocks. :yesnod:

You might consider swapping out your K&N, they let more junk by, including air, than other filter types.  I actually have a K&N on my 85 with weber carb (not sure what to replace the filter with), had one on my 00 Camaro but won't put one on the new truck.

A friend on mine actually had a transmission problem that the dealer said resulted from his K&N, I guess the extra junk caused some senser in the intake to quit working, sounds fishy, but if you read the reports on them you will find out that people have proved doing tests on engine oil that more gets through.

Just don't run one blindly, make specific choice based upon research.  I don't think that they are worth the small performance gain, there are other options that are good as well.

Hey, thanks everybody.  I hope to borrow my dad's digital camera to take some pictures of when I do my axle swap.  Just looking for an axle.

Hey blackdiamond, I never heard that before.  I might have to put my stock air box back in.  I did it because I live out in Boulder, CO over a mile high so I was trying to get every advantage I could get when going up the passes.

By the way how do you do a quote box?

:welcome:   Use the reply with quote to start till you get the hang of things.

:yikes: Hold that K&N filter up to the light and look at all the holes you can see through.  You could use a taller filter element if you have room, just don't get it wet. :nonono:
