Jump Car Story
« on: May 26, 2005, 12:44:10 PM »
The following pictures are of a car that and friend and I purchased in College for $100.  We purchased it to take to the Tuff Truck competition in Pasco, WA, but we missed the cutoff by just a few trucks/cars.  I'm pretty sure that we could have taken the Honda Accord!  We got it from a wreck yard (they gave us a  working battery) we changed the spark plugs and it was good to go at 240,000 miles.  It fouled the plugs nearly every hour so we didn't drive it much.  We installed a roll bar made out of scrap steel and built a custom tow bar for the trip.  It towed straight at 80 mph, problem was that I had to ride in the car to keep it running so that the lights worked (no wiring).  We ended up in the Blue Mountains for the actual jumps.  The radiator took a beating (it looked like a taco and was pushed back) but it never leaked a drop.  We finally lost a transmission line and the fluid that brought us to a hault after about 10 passes.

The jump jump was added to force the scanner to see the entire picture.  Without it the scan stopped at the roof of the car.

The car actually looked fairly good until we did the custom paint job, the pink was actually red, but it didn't come out right.  We purchased a lowering kit (clamps to compress to coils together) and reversed it for lift.  We cranked it up (1/2 kit on each side) to the max.  We expected that the bolts would let go, but they held like champs.

Did ya do any killer e-brakes in it?  A friend had one and that thing would some of the best e-brakes ever.    An old classmate of mine was given a mid 80's chevy chevette, that we proceded to strip out all the seats, interior, back hatch, exhaust and windows.  Then spray painted less weight, more air!!  That thing would get some sweet air!  We would get some of the strangest looks as we would sail off the hwy and do some ditch surfing!!
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!
