Checking In
« on: Apr 14, 2005, 03:22:25 PM »
Signed up on the board because I've got some techy questions  :crossed: .  Looks like mostly built rigs.  Cool site.

I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Wyoming.  I've got a 91 pickup 22re 5spd, 31" BFG at's Truetrac in the rear.  Nothing special, but I am alway suprised at how well a basically stock Toyota does against all the other common rigs out there.

I would agree that Toys are great trucks offroad, I grew up in the Blazer world and would say that they do awesome as well!  In my opinion BigMike is the knowledge king on this board, but you will find many helpful and knowledgeable people here; however, I'm probably not one of them  :hammerhead:

The only general advise that I can pass along from my experience is that 1 locker = 2 limited slips and low gears are more rewarding off-road than lockers.  Having traction without power and/or control is frustrating.  I had 32 inch tires on my 85 with stock 4.10 gears and was happy, my 33 inch tires killed my power so I now have 4.88s.  My Marlin 4.70 gears are the greatest mod to my truck so far, highly recommended!

Bonus points for spotting the dent.

It's usually harder to see because of the white paint.  You know how the forest service roads get smaller the further in you go?  The one we were on was down to 4wheeler tracks, and crawlin all over some muddy rocks.  I slid into a tree trying to turn around.  Sucks because there weren't any big dents on the truck yet, but I'm much less concerned about scratching it off road now.  It's the first thing I've owned that would book for more than $500, so I was pretty nervous about it.

Dents give a truck character.
