Need help on the v6 brake upgrade on 85 solid axle
« on: Aug 03, 2019, 09:14:05 AM »
Hi I am trying to do the V6 brake upgrade on my totally stock 85 solid axle truck but I am having a problem.  The issue is that with the new rotor and caliper, the caliper mounts don’t clear the knuckle mounts while having the vented rotor correctly aligned in the middle of the caliper.

I have read a bunch of sources on the upgrade, and I thought I got the right parts. I am using my solid axle wheel bearing hub. I am using the following new parts:

- Calipers from a v6 95 4runner stamped “S13WB”

- Vented rotors for Land Cruiser (Napa Part 4885799)

Since this is my first post I don't think this board lets me attach a photo, too bad. But anyway with the caliper mounting ear placed behind the knuckle mounting ear, the rotor disk is nowhere near the middle of the brake pads like it should be.

Can anybody tell me what I’m doing wrong? Much appreciated

Did you tear the whole knuckle down?

Otherwise theres not much to it.
The rotor should be late 40/60 fronts.
Rotor obviously mounts to inside of hub.
Brake caliper mounts to the inside of the mount as well.
hold this. . .

Thanks for responding.

Yes I tore down the whole knuckle down and put in a Marlin Crawler Knuckle Service Kit.

Maybe I didn't put something back correctly I will look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.

i got it.  It wasn't totally seated on the spindle. When i felt the resistance I thought there was a fit problem, I was reluctant to force it. I put the wheel bearing hub nut on their and started turning and it shoved it up into place.

Thanks a lot.
