Start by telling us what kind of vehicle you have. :gap:

More like the camber, but more importantly is what is causing it to be off, a complete vehicle description would help to narrow it down some.

Toe will tend to cause scrubbing across the tread and depending on it being in or out will cause some cupping on either the inside or outside but if it is just wearing hard on the inside or outside it will be camber. Funny thing is this question is always up for debate but I have found that excessive wear on the inside or outside it will be primarily the camber but probably both camber and toe to some degree. If there it too much toe in the outside edges will roll under and wear on the outside some as would be the same for too much toe out. This will also cause the tire to hop a little and give you the cupping, camber will just wear hard on the edge it is sitting on.

I have an 87 4runner I did a solid axle swap on axles are out of 79 toyota pickup. I have also noticed if I go fast in reverse  the wheels want to whip back and forth out of control.

You prob set your tierod up improperly and you're either toed out or in. Measure the front and the rear distance between each tire, they should be very close. I guess it's 1/8th inch toed in? If I remember correctly?

That would be correct, should be measured at the center in line with the axle.

it is either negative camber or excessive toe out

excessive toe will manifest itself a lot faster than negative camber

Isn't toe the only adjustment that can be made on a solid front axle?

Well, you can adjust camber with a bottle jack and a peice of railroad iron...

maybe, but I think you may have other issues showing up, like difficult steering and maybe even noisy steering, i guess odd tire wear could be caused by steering. but did you ever measure  your toe?

that would do it

too much toe out = inside tire edge wear
too much toe in = outside tire edge wear
