Topic: 3.0 to 22re emissions questions for komifornia

Before I go digging I figured I'd see if anyone could shed some light here. When swapping a motor in ca the motor must be from a newer vehicle correct??  Second does DMV have record of 88-95s coming with the 3.0 or 22re? Or is the vin tied to a 3.0 or 22re? and I'm not talking the door tag I mean the actual vin number.

Same year or newer for the engine.

the ref reads the computer number and make sure its the same yr or newer

Im actually thinking of doing a swap myself, do they run the motor #?
if not then its just the computer, correct?

You don't need to reff the swap if that motor originally came in that vehicle, you can take it to the regular smog station;)

I dont really like the 3.4's, nothing against them just love the 22re's and they always do the job for me

I am personally not a fan of the 3.4 either. I think what I am going to do since my truck is already on tons and 3 linked is swap the motor and then find a 2wd 22re cab to swap on, no ref and cheaper insurance is a win win in my book.

Till CHP stops you and see's that your frame vin doesnt match your cab vin and it opens a whole giant can of worms.

Doubtful they would tow it but they would make him come in for a blue tag. Not sure what sort of wait for a vin inspection he would have but it seems its 2-3 months out around here to get an appointment for one.

I had a mr2 years ago and had to get one and garcia did it right there with there mechanic
garcia gave me 24 hours to get it down to them

Is there a write up somewhere for the 3.0 to 22r swap? I wanna do this in my 88 4runner

Put in a 4.3 Chevy V6 with 700-R4 Trans. As long as it's newer, ref will love you,
