Topic: Hard to engage 1st gear...84 truck 4x4

I all, Ive got a 1984 that I bought new back in 84, 222,000 original miles. Had the tranny rebuilt about 10 years ago, new clutch etc.
Lately its been tough to get into 1st gear, checked slave cyl. and master cyl, they seem to be ok. Any ideas???

Ok, been reading some related posts...hope its not a syncro...truck has hardly been driven since tranny rebuild...

Try to bleed the slave a bit. The slave in my '80 would get moisture in the fluid and get a little short on stroke. It still worked just not ehough and 1st gear would be hard. You can gravity bleed them just crack the bleeder and top off from the res until fresh clear fluid comes out the slave.  I ended up switching to synthetic brake fluid and it hasn't given me a problem since.

Might not be your problem but it's worth a try before you suspect something more serious.

Ok, I'll give that a try, thanks. Ive had older landcruisers most of my driving years, never had a problem like this....
