Yota power!
« on: Oct 02, 2011, 09:28:50 PM »
Hello everybody! My name is Chris Gill. Some may know me as doob. I have been a quasi wheeler for about ten years now. Just getting off a 2 year hiatus from wheeling/wrenching due to a broken neck, and I have to say, it feels like shi# to be back. My latest rig is a Red 86 single cab turbo truck.
I bought the cab and frame off a guy named Misael. He and his family were HELLA cool and gave me a great deal. If you're out there Misael, drop me an email, I want to show you pics of the truck and take you wheelin in a couple of months once I finish. (youRwhatyoueat@gmail.com)

My philosophy for this build was simple: Stay with all toyota parts and build a rig that is stout and can perform well offroad, but will still go straight when you let go of the steering wheel, and stop when you hit the brakes. And maybe.... just maybe get better than 20 mpg.

I've got a ton of parts- too lazy to list but I think she'll be plenty bangable. Here's a couple pics

Thanks Marlin for building my transmission, and thanks to the person who did my t-case. I'm still trying to work out  a clutch fork and throwout bearing with retaining spring for the R151F if anyone can help me out??

Anyway, its great to be here.

Thanks everyone. Just moved up to chico ca. Its nice down here. Trying to get some cash and motivation to finish her up. The bumper is one-off. Cut all the pieces out with a grinder (f ing nightmare). I'm going to post some new pictures soon. Still have to do brake lines, wiring harness, exh, batteries, wire the arb pump and work out the interior, but its real close. I'll buy beer if anyone wants to come help.

I'm going all stock for now with the turbo and fuel injection. Had the turbo rebuilt at turbo and electric in phoenix az. They
are very good and charge a fair price. They also offer a new turbine housing for the ct 20 that is actually beefier than stock. The ct 20s are notorious for cracking around the waste gate, and  the exh man cracks as well. The turbo is too small for the motor and the oil line gets cooked by the exh man. I'm going to try to insulate the oil line, but I don't have high hopes for this thing in terms of hp or reliability. I think it's cool though.... Had to wheel and deal for almost a year before I found a stock exh man that wasn't cracked
