need suggestions on 85 build up
« on: Jan 14, 2012, 05:59:36 PM »
Hey guys, im currently running RUF with few extra leafs its a 5 pack currently. just mounted my ifs steering box yesterday so got all steering done with high steer and all that. okay heres question..
I recently got some TG 5" springs off of a guy and i was considering welding up the hangars and running those or should i just not even bother and go straight for 63s? cost is a bit of an issue here but i can get 63s from boneyard for about $100. and double shackle? or relocating the back hanger too if i go with 63s.
thank you for opinions and pics are alwayyyys awesome haha

I would run the TG springs, I checked into 63s awhile ago and they are really long, since I took 10" off my bed they didn't work for me. I ended up with f-150s.
I have a friend with the TG 5" springs, his truck is quite tall but the springs flex really good.

TG's are known to sag, I've never had them but Marlin had the same springs several years ago and they sagged out so they switched to a better supplier. I'd keep an eye on them even more since you removed some leafs.

Don't sweat the high number of leaves in the pack. The longer ones flex more than the shorter ones. If you use an add a leaf, cut the back off the add a leaf behind the rear perch. 1. you will get the extra height. 2. it wont ride like a semi truck. 3. leaving the front long will work like a track back helping stop some of the axle wrap.

If I read this right If you do go to the 63's the mount should be moved
in the front not the rear, My buddy took his TG's off and want to 63's
and he has way more flex....

yeah the front hanger of the back springs. still back and forth on the 63s vs trail-gears mainly cuz i dont have $100 right now which is what the pick and pull is asking for some chevy leafs

im running 63 with the dual shackle set up on my runner, kinda scary going down a steep hill but never had em unload.  im gonna add a limit strap at the differential so they wont completely open up while going down a steep obstacle but they'll still be able to open up completely while flexing

I wouldnt run dual shackles imo. If I were you I would run the tg 5" since you already have them and there really not that bad, worst case it's no big deal to change out to 63's later down the road if your not happy.

Edit: On the sagging issue, run them how you have them and if they start to sag to much throw some leafs back in. My guess depending on how exactly your ruf is setup, is that they will both settle out about the same.
