can i make a trail-gear doubler kit marlin worthy......
« on: Oct 15, 2010, 12:40:20 PM »
I have available to me a trail-gear dual case adaptor for VERY cheap.... The price is too good to pass up....  pretty much im going to buy it, but im wondering if i can upgrade it to a dependable status or if i should just sell/save and get the marlin....  Im not in a hurry to do doubles (acutally i just want the 4.7's lol)..... I personally believe that marlin has a better part, but im not running huge tires, lots of power or do anything too extreme. so the TG would prob hold up to me just fine...

guess im just looking for everyones opinion..... and remeber its not like im buying it new. but its unused, so i really wouldnt be supporting TG lol

bearings, seals, extension????

Toby, many people have ran them with no problems.  But I personally wouldn't.  You can run it, till something happens and then get the Marlin adapter.

No offense to marlin but I bought mine new from tg along with a 4.7 kit for the rear case. It's been great. I run a really hoped up 22re and I use to have 38.5x15.50r15 boggers and never broke it. It's solid. And it cheap. I'm not rich so price means alot to me. I say run it. If it becomes a issue warrenty it out and sell it.

Does it come with a double roller main shaft bearings? Sure without it you will be OK since until Marlin Crawler came out with a stronger more durable design you could still wheel it hard. It's what happens over time that is what you need to address. It will suck to lose 2 cases over a simple design flaw that has been taken care of with the double roller bearings.

i mean really.... i bought the kit for less than a hundred bucks... i can spend a little to gain a bit of longevity out of it.

Yes you can upgrade to the double roller bearings, take the TG adaptor and toss it in the trash and order an adaptor from Marlin. :gap:

Seriously, no you can't upgrade them it is of course a different design.
