i wouldnt go with a new carb just yet. i had the same problem in my 85 with a 22r.  it would drive and run fine most of the time but once in a while it would just die.  i couldnt figure it out, i was getting fuel and spark but i would not stay running.  it ended up being a relay on the side of the fuse block where the connection was curroded. my advice is start it and start wiggling som wires, even the ones under ur dash on ur steering colum, if it dies then its a loose connection.
hope that helps,
anthony

why? lol

I don't have the patience or the wallet to buy all the jets to keep screwing with it to get it to run well, they don't like the slightest angle and the high angle mod barely did anything to me, and a good working 22r carb works better.  I've had my 22r carbed rigs at much steeper angles without issues, but I still want to make an adapter to mount the 22re intake on my 20r head.

Man, you just need to put out the call and find a couple local board members to help you fix this thing before you dump too much money into it.

Just wondering why you would keep something on your truck for 10 years that you don't like ?

20r carbs don't flow for crap and I don't have any good 22r carbs to install, and for years I've wanted to convert it to efi but don't have the skills to make the adapter.

I am thinking I would be better off just going straight to EFI myself

you know ive done some hard wheeling with my weber, i NEED to do the high angle mod but my weber does really well on anything short of a 45* angle

I'm lucky if mine will go 20 degrees before it has issues, and that's after the mod and dropping the float level.  And I've never paid more than $35 for a weber  :_oops:

Mine had the same problem for about a year. It was the fuel cut solenoid. If its working, key on, unplug the plug on your carb, and plug it back in, you should hear a click from the carb. But this doesnt nescessarily mean it works. The ground was bad on mine and would work sometimes. I cut and wired it direct and no problems since.

Look at the solenoid. Its shaped kinda like a bullet, on pas side, top of carb. Its small. Theres only 2 wires I believe coming out of it. One is the power, one is the ground, I dont remember if they were color coded, but I just touched em to the battery to find out. You can pull the plug on your carb, and run a ground and power wire to the pins in the plug, and test it that way also.

I took off all my vac lines also at the time mine was running bad. Now I have to hook it all back up to get it smogged. I would hook all you stuff back up now before you lose some parts, like I did. People say it helps, and makes it easier. But it was put there for a reason, ya know, and it dont hurt it to be there. I dunno if you gotta smog, but if ya do, its something to think about.
