I usually can't go from 4HI to 2HI unless I'm rolling and loading the drivetrain with a few RPM's. I usually let off the gas, and the shifter moves easily.

Go in reverse and hit the brakes hard to come to a stop quick, take the load off.  Try it.  If no worky, go forward and slam on the brakes, and try again.  Repeat until it works.

What we are telling you to do is caused because the shift collars have a 2 degree female taper and the mating shift hubs have a 2 degree male taper. This design helps prevent the t/case from walking out of gear however, is not uncommon for the mating parts to get locked togeather. This condition should get better in time as you use the t/case more.
