X2 on the stock resurfaced flywheel, but I like the 1600lb Marlin clutch.

My Marlin 1200 clutch locks up good and takes less pedal effort than my old OEM clutch.

Them marlin clutches are the same as OEM Aisin with quality Japanese parts and Bearings, the major difference is the  pressure plate which locks up better than stock.

Marlin 1600 lb pressure plate and clutch disc the flywheel machined with a .026 step.  Works flawlessly with dual ultimates.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I THOUGHT I read somewhere that a stock pressure plate was around 800 lbs?  :dunno:

I have run both 1200 and 1600 clutches and here is my advice.  If your running a truck (lighter than the 4Runner) on 33 inch or smaller tires I would choose the 1200, but once you get 35 inch or larger tires I think I would prefer the 1600.  Ironically, I have run the opposite so far.

The 1600 was a bit too much in my 85 truck with 33s and as a result I chose the 1200 for my 89 SAS 4Runner on 35s and wish I had gone with the 1600.

You'll be happy with both so don't worry too much about it.

The Centerforce "Special Feature" is some mechanism that increases pressure as the RPMs are increased (ideal for drag racing).  I believe the website has a note that this feature isn't part of the design for all applications including our Toyota's.

Depends if you like a soft or hard pedal.........I prefer a  clutch from ACT, super duty or extreme clutch kit.Yeah they got flywheels too but they're lightweight....Pricey though. Check your local import racing shop.

I have a stock flywheel and the 1600lb non-ceramic.  It works great and on is on, off is off.  Not like a switch - more like in a sports car.  Quick and snappy.  Really tough to burn up.  You do have to make quicker gear changes, though, with it.

I had a Centerforce dual friction and all it did was act like a CVT at lower rpms.  Kind of like the thing was only partially engaged/had a lot of slip.  Odd feeling, though it never did burn itself or anything. Not my "thing" - I want engaged or not engaged.

I have a resurfaced stock flywheel and a Luk clutch.  I am very happy with it, but I'll see if that changes when I get 35s  :usa:

Just curious, but what kind of local dealer carries downey?  You'll be pretty happy with it I'm sure, they're good quality kits from what I hear.  I don't know if I'd get the flywheel though, just depends on if you want the heavier flywheel to make it harder to stall or for bigger tires.

marlin 1600 hd with a marlin spe stepped flywheel.... you dont need the step, but it will extend life... with and new clutch it is recommended to at least have the flywheel resurfaced

Sounds like a cool truck! I am sure I will be happy with my Marlin 1600 and stepped flywheel when I drop in my new motor.

The heavier flywheel just keeps your engine from dieing as quickly as normal when chugging along... something about momentum and stuff.

I am sure the Downey kit will be fine... personally I would do the 1600 lb Marlin clutch. I have a cheapy parts store clutch in it now thats not even a year old, and it is slipping with 30 inch tires, so I decided to go all out when I drop the new motor in.
