Topic: 22RE Air Filter Box Interchangability

I have an '89 4Runner with the 22RE. The previous owner got rid of the original air box lid, and I'm wanting to use the stock air filter box due to its design. What year air boxes would fit? Are all 22RE air boxes the same from about '87 to '90s 4Runners? Online, I can only find listings for 22RE '90-95. Thanks for your help. Oh, and if anyone has an air box they want to sell for cheap, let me know! The body style is the 4Runner in my avatar...

They are not identical, but they will work.  you can even use an air box from a 3.0.  supposed to be better flowing.  i had one for a while but went back to stock.

from what I found 85-88 boxes where the same on trucks 89 for a 4runner, then 89/90-95 where the same its that stupid air pump thing that makes them diffrent, you could block it off. 3.0 uses a different afm bolt pattern and style then the 22re.

Thanks for the help! The comment regarding the "air pump" fitting helped a lot, as I do have that hose on my current intake. So, it appears that I have a later model 22RE air box. The '89 4Runner seems to be a mixed bag of old and "new" parts.
