22re intake filter and battery; swap sides?
« on: Sep 25, 2006, 05:17:29 PM »

i have heard about putting the battery on the other side and running the mass air and a cone filter right off the manifold and TB. i was wondering if any one had pix of this or any info. sounds like a good idea but could also be a waste of time.
thanks

shorter air tract, and ability to use an open element filter

why would u want to mount the battery in the front where u already have too much weight? mount it somewhere else...build a battery box and mount it between the framerails under the bed or in the cab (if extracab).  I can understand how an open air filter would increase flow, (great for a street car) but for what we do...u are going to be sucking in alot more dirt into your engine. Personally I think they are engine killers

i didn't move the battery.  i have no before an after opinions of this since i just droped the whole engine in there.  i don't ever drive it on the road so it works for me.  seams to run fine even with the tapping (either timing chain or valve)  the cone filter does hit the hood.  and i don't care if the intake is right above the exhaust, like i said it works.

thats kinda like the downey one iam running. but a bigger filter. i was just wondering about the batt and filter swap. i read it some where on here. sounds like a good idea for the road. maybe add some kind of hood scoop to have a ram air too. i have to put alot of freeway mi. on my truck so any little thing that can help.
i would like to have a summer intake and winter intake. one that is better for dry hot air and one that is better for wet, rainy soupy mud boggs.
i think my downey open air would be toast in a soupy bog.
what if you had a hood that had a scoop you could take on and off.
on for the summer and off during winter with a snorkle in its place
