swapping trans. and transfercase in a 90's 4Runner
« on: Feb 12, 2004, 09:41:47 AM »
Well, I may very well be shot down in coming up with the 90's 4Runner that I was hoping to get due to their being damn near impossible to find and thanks to info from Marlin, don't have the tranny and transfercase I want.
My question now is what would it take to swap the G series tranny and chain drive transfercase to a W series tranny and gear driven transfercase? Would they be a straight swap on a 22re motor or would serious mods be required (i.e. drivelines, shifters, body mods)?
Any info would be appreciated!

i believe pretty much a straight swap, except shifter position maybe moved a little forward or backwards. I am not really sure about the measurements on the trannys.  So you may need to cut the shifter holes in the body a little.  As for drivelines there shouldn't be enough difference in length

It is a simple, straight forward swap:thumbs:
The bellhousing, starter, clutch assm, trans and t/case handles,  body boots, driveshaft, and crossmember are all the same.

You must use a forward shifting W56 trans and t/case with mount assembly only found on 89-95' p/ups, and 90-95' runners.

Tomorrow, I will check to see if a 90's runner ever got the W56 with manual hubs.
