EFI Problems, help
« on: Oct 13, 2006, 12:49:26 PM »
I have a wired set up, it is a 84 ext. cab on a 85 four runner frame and running gear, with a 87 efi motor swap. Now my problem is, when i drive it starts to bog down and sputter and pop and hesitate when you give it full throttle but if you baby it, it doesn't do quite as bad. I thought it was the alternator (the battery isn't holding a charge) put it in and it didn't work battery still loses charge so i had it tested 4 differant times all say its good, changed coil, new battery, computer, people have told me that it is fuel but it isn't consitant. could it be distributer, timing, or fuel?

Have you adjusted your TPS Sensor, Valves, Timing, Cleaned Fuel Injectors, changed your Spark Plug Wires, Spark Plugs?

I would start at your battery if its losing charge, but still tests good. Sounds like you have a bad ground connection or a draw on the system. You may want to go through the ingition and charging systems with a fine tooth comb.

Sputtering during acceleration is usually caused by poor air/fuel mixtures or bad spark. I would guess that you have a battery charging problem that is causing poor spark.
