Hyena, you have broke both sides multiple times?  Were those the ARP studs???  Do you have hydro assist?  I currently have a "home made high steer" made of cutting, flipping and trading sides with the factory arms.  In almost five years I have never broke off any studs but have been very consistent with "pulling" out the threads on the p-side, front, outer stud.

I too want the 6 stud knuckles, even more so now then when we first all heard about them. Your Dana 60 plan will surely fix the problem but is a fairly expensive one as well.

I am just going to keep waiting .......

no, they were the marlin ones with the E-12 head on them.  i have a welded front end with no hydro assist so there was some stress on them but not as much as with hydro steering.  i may go with APR ones when i do hydro assist soon.

I too would like a set of these fabled often talked about 6 studded knuckles, but I have been surviving just fine on my marlin crossover steering with 39.5 iroks/detroit locked front/stock studs.  I have broke some but it's not a reoccuring event.  Tice runs 36's with hydro assist and stock bolts without breaking any steering arm studs.  Bertha runs 38 TSL-SX with hydro assist and stock bolts and again I have never seen him break any studs.  Here's a hint, that may and hopefully help you survive the wait, that we (myself, tice, bertha and anyone that runs with us) all live by:  Torq your steering arm nuts before EVERY run to called specs with the cone washers and flat washers.  Over tightening and of course loose arms will break quickly.  The reason my studs broke the few times they have is due to me not living my this simple rule, I just flat didn't check them.  The bolts do loosen even over just one trail.  Check them often.

Now back to the waiting.

You know Toyman, i do that each and every time before and even sometimes during my wheeling trips and I consistently "pull" out the threads in the knuckle on the p-side outer front stud.  It doesn't happen all at once but just a little by little over the course of a couple years.  I have pulled out two studs so far and am working on a third.  I have never broke off any studs which is good but I know that every two - three years I have to replace the p-side knuckle.

Over all its not that big of deal I know but I do believe that 6 studs holding that arm down will make  the difference.

You know, I have pulled two also, have you tried to helicoil them?  I have them in my tool box, just never took the time to try it.  I do agree though about 6 studs will be better, but who knows how long this litigation is gonna take, just trying to come up with some decent solutions besides going to a D60 that will help us all get through it.

Probably the reality of it is:  The litigation could go on for some time.  With Attorneys involved, who could possibly give a "real" time frame.

I have not tried the heilcoil idea yet but have thought about it many times.  I am not a huge "steel/metal/fab" guy so some guys I talk to about it say it should be better then factory and others I talk with say it won't be.  I am sure more then one person on this board has done it though.  I know a HUGE part of the equation is the type of material the helicoil is placed into.  I believe those knuckles are cast and I just don't know for sure what kind of results you would get ..... Guess I need to try it.  I have a spare on under the bench that I could play with.

I have a spare also, but it's a little further for me, mine is in AZ and I'm in Iraq, hmmm...if you try it let me know, that'll give me one more spare knuckle for the Las Cruces Chili Challenge!!

yes they have.  a number of people drill and tap the knuckle for the 9/16" D44 studs.

I have nothing to add to the expected release of these knuckles right now, but what I want to remind people is that if your studs are not torqued down correctly, then they will break.

It is extremely vital to monitor the studs. That is why the new factory Toyota studs have an E12 head on top of them so you can check the torque without removing the arm itself.

And I am guessing that you then eliminate the studs breaking but you ensure the knuckle itself to fail  .... am I close??? ??

if the studs fail generally the nuckle is trash.. so either way it doesnt matter.  the D44 studs are the way to go i believe.  take a mic to a knuckle after the studs break and you will see.
