What springs for SAS
« on: Jun 04, 2005, 12:29:31 AM »
I am starting to gather parts for my SAS and I want some suggestions, opinions, ideas about what I should use for springs. I need some good flex and enough lift to run 37"s. I have heard all different stuff and am really undecided about what way to go. I dont have the room or time to try and come up with a custom leaf pack so thats out. I need something that I can swap in and pretty much be done with. I like the buggy idea and a friend of mine uses a rubber snub to keep his from slapping the frame and also pins them for street us. Give me your thoughts because I am ready to go junk yard diving for parts. Thanks

stay away from all pros garbage-i have buddies that used jeep wagoneer or wrangler springs{414450s?} and hung them under the frame at the rear of the spring and that works well

I have thought about the ranger/bronco II leafs but I used to have a 88 Ranger and I really wasnt happy with the flex. Do I need to take out any leafs? And would that give me enough lift to run 37"s? I know I need a longer shackle but how much lnger.

i run toyota rears and a waggy pack up front, and a 7 leaf waggy pack out back, flex is great and it is really really stable even with tires 1+ feet in the air! the wagoneer springs that people run are Rancho 44044's they are like 7"s of lift in the front. a little to high for me and they flex fairly well,

hmmm, so I call up Rancho and I tell them I want 44044's and I get a flexy leaf with 7" of lift? That'l fit the 37's pretty well.

yes 44044 will stuff 37's quite well maybe a little "massaging" of the firewall!

those are the ones my buddys run. be careful they say those sag real fast.  go 4 link all the way around.  get the factory 4 runner rear stuff that everybody cuts out and throws away. or if you run springs, i have the chevies in the back and they work well. the extra cab makes a boring ride. it sucks up anything in its path with no effort whatsoever.

So what your saying is that with the longer wheelbase of the extra cab ill be able to crawl right over stuff pretty easy? Sounds like them 44044's may be the ticket. I only worry about the sagging though. How much? I do plan on a 1" body lift in the future to make room for a tummy tuck. I suppose I'll go with those springs and see how they do. Oh and you can forget that 4-link all the way around. Maybe after I win the lottery. Im only a two striped airman making below poverty wages busting my as on the flight line for 10hours a day   :usa:

44044's are tooo tall and dont have a mil wrap...marlins springs cost about as much as the 44044 and arent built for a v8 jeep wagoneer :dunno:

X2  44044's suck ass.  So what if 5 people on PBB had good luck with them in 1997 so know everyone thinks they are the best spring on the market.  They are designed for the front of a fullsize cherokee with either a v8 or a straight 6.  How can they flex on the front of a light ass yota?  Not very well.  They do allow for a bit of flex but they are too damned stiff an the leaves are way too thick to compress very well at all.  Id suggest Marlins for the front of your rig, you'll be MUCH happier in the long run.

I know these don't show it but I have rear custom packs up front (overloads taken out and 1 leaf added, 6 total leafs) and Mazda 2wd rears with buggy reverse leaf rear.  Rancho 9000 front shocks and 5000 rear shocks.

I'll try to find more pics.  But I'd have to say that I love teh setup and would recommend it to anyone.  Its also really cheap too.
