r151f swap questions
« on: Dec 03, 2006, 08:17:15 AM »
Im sure this is on here somewhere but what do I need to swap out my w56 with a r series trans? I found an r series trans and transfer case used for 400 and my w56 bearings are gettin crunchy. Would I need the clutch for the turbo trans? (23 spline) Is anyone here using a heavier flywheel than stock? Im thinking of puttin one in. Thanks for any help guys.  :turtle: Mike

i'd use the stock flywheel,  but yea you'll want a turbo clutch,  actually   get the clutch from Marlin  you'll be very pleased

Thanks for the help. I hear the ratios are different in the trans and transfer case in the turbo trans, how different are they? would a w56 transfer case bolt to a r series trans? Mine is coming with the transfer but im keeping the other one maybe for a dual transfer setup later. Thanks :turtle:

the 151  has a 4.31  1st gear   and Marlin can  put 5.15  1st gears  in them.

the tcases are the same besides having 21  spline in the w56  and 23 spline on the R151,  but if going duals  you can swap a 23 spline input into the w56 tcase easy

Does the non turbo 22re flywheel work with the turbo clutch and trans? Do I have to mod the floor for the shifter by swapping in this trans? I have this trans from the junkyard and want to clean it up a bit and check it out, what should I look for? Im planning on changing the seal between the trans and transfer, what else should I change? Thanks for the great help.  Mike :turtle:

A link I had in some folder of bookmarks. Looks to be applicable to your swap.

Checked the dealer today for the gasket and seal that go between the trans and transfer case. You can only buy them by the kit I was told for the r151f. Does anyone know the part numbers so I can order them? Thanks
