Hello hopefully someone has had a similar issue and can help me out. I have a 1985 Toyota xtra cab with a 22re and a 5 speed it also has dual transfer cases and a straight axle up front. My issue is every 5th to 10th time using 4wd the rear transfercase will lock into a neutral state as I’m putting it into 4x4 mode rounding the curve in the “J” pattern. It completely locks and will not move. My fix is to take the shifter out and manually use a screwdriver to align the forks back up bolt everything back together and it will then shift normally again. What is the fix for this? Recently this caught me stranded in the Bob Marshall wilderness in Montana with a 5 mile hike in the dark at 71 years old and the thought of a recent grizzly attack two days prior where a camper was killed over in ovando on my mind. Grizzly is still being hunted not found yet. Anyways I’d like to resolve this. The truck only has 120k original miles and all maintenance has been done. Runs like a top and is a great truck inside and out. Thanks again look forward to a solution soon!
