Anyone run an engine oil cooler?
« on: Jan 06, 2015, 06:03:07 PM »
Had the 2RZ out on the first and was running it real hard, lots of rpms. That's just how I roll. So after a while the oil pressure falls off a little, maybe 10 psi at 4500 rpm. Had the same issue with another 4cyl wheeler I had and ended up running 50 wt racing oil. This isn't and option for the winter so my thought is run 5w-40 for now and maybe an oil cooler as the next step. Once the oil cools back down oil pressure come back to " normal". Thoughts?

I know that the factory 22RTE's ran a oil cooler.  I can't remember where the lines ran to, to help with cooling.  IIRC to some ports in the intake?!?!

I noticed the oil pressure drop with my 22RE...

I added an oil cooler with a thermostatic valve and didn't notice any difference with the pressure.

I figured that the supposed higher pressure with cooler oil was canceled by the longer path of the extra oil lines..........

 :dunno:

Another thing I noticed is that if I drove hard long enough, the oil pressure would creep back up a little.....

I figure that was when the block and internal components were good and hot, and the internal tolerances tightened up just slighty;    raising the oil pressure.

I run a 22rte oil cooler on my 22re, it seems to help a bit. Realize it cools using engine water to cool the oil so not a huge difference in temperature.

Well I'm going to install a Hayden cooler and see what happens. My other concern is if I add a TURBO then I'll be even in more of a need to keep the oil cool. Or I could just idle everywhere I go.........................NOT!
