6x6 '92 4-runner!!
« on: Feb 14, 2005, 08:55:15 PM »
We had an extremely outrageous idea toady at the shop. I have a chopped '92 4-runner sitting here and I know where I can get 2 old duece and a halfs 6x6's. Here's the idea...chop off all the old remaining body of the duece and section the frame of it to fit the 'runner. Tires? how about 10-48" Michelin XLs. Mind you this is not really a trail rig or a daily driver, just something huge and obnoxiously loud. Powerplant-we are going to try to keep the diesel that is in it. Suspension- keep the leaf sprung that is in it but remove some of the leafs. Steering-just adapt to the duece's. As far as the body goes we are going to chop off the mini bed it has and build a massive flatbed. So it would be a crewcab Toyota with a flatbed(that is like 6+ feet long) We aren't really worried about flex b/c the 1 of the 3 axles would always have traction.

Tell me what ya think. Emissions would not be a problem b/c it would be titled as a duece that is pre 1970.

This has been discussed about 10 times here in the past, but no one's been brave enough to build it.

When you get it done you will have to change the name of your rig to a "6-Runner"

By the way where is this place you can find old 2 1/2 ton mil trucks?
Beat to fit, Paint to match
Need a bigger hammer and more paint.

Did 75 Toyota (Downey 4X4 conversion Kit)
Doing 88 Toyota 4X4 (Desert race truck)
Next 81 Toyota 4x4 (drive train upgrade)

That would be sick! You'll be Big Pimpin in a 6x6.  You should build it and take it on the rubicon memorial weekend.  I love military S#!t!   :turtle:  :usa:

From east coast to west coast in that thing would be rough. Although I could just put my rig on the back of it and haul it too!

There's a guy from Portland that comes to the coast in a jeep tj with 3 axles, it wheeled and climbed pretty good.  I believe he used 1/2 ton chevy axles, the first rear axle had two third members.  one replaced the diff cover.  He had to do a little machining to get the gearing to mesh up right!  It had coil springs and seemed to flex pretty good!  For a jeep it looked pretty cool, and it had a 6' bed!
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!
