Topic: 85 4runner no attempt to fire

so i got my motor rebuild an put in the 4runner an now i cant get it to fire off i have fuel an spark, only time it will run is with starting fluid but soon as you stop it stops trying it will crank all day long with lil spits an spudders but will not start  i am about to scrap the efi an go carberated

try checking the injector connections, coil ignitor, tps, cold start injector, ecu, plug wires,all fuses under hood and kick panel...is it cranking slow or fast? do you have fuel pressure? check the fuel pump too. got your timing set correctly? its most likely something stupid and small. usually always is with these motors. just have to find the culprit..

i got fuel pressure an had a plug wire that was cut on the cold start time sensor an re connected it it ran before i got it but had a knock in number 4 so it has been rebuilt this year. could it be from not having the starter hooked up to the ignition thats how i got it it was headed to the scrap yard before i bought it

i have an 87 4runner and its starter is hooked to a toggle switch, only turn the key to on and hit the toggle and it starts it just like the ignition.

check your grounds, did u re connect the one from the back of the head to the body?

yes an the one to the plenum

not a bad idea to get the started tested as well just to rule that out.

pull the cold start injector and turn the key to on and see if it sprays fuel so u know that thats working,

possibly fuel pressure regulator.

I pulled the injectors an could smell fuel on the injectors my inline filter was leaking so I might of been getting weak fuel pressure from that

It may be the injectors. Have them flow tested and maybe even just rebuilt. Sometimes they'll still spray fuel but it's not the right pattern or amount and it won't run..

Well it's alive a running now I have a surging problem when I slowly idle up

check throttle body butterfly shaft bushings, may be throwing your tps off
