Vaccuum question with pics
« on: Jun 14, 2014, 09:12:19 AM »
Can someone help me out with a link or advice on what these hoses - connections do and how I need to have them hooked up?

Also is there a recommended shop manual for my 1985 - 22RE? The Haynes manual is pretty skinny on detail.

#2 in the second pic is fine , dont know what its for but its some kind of breather that just hangs there. As for manuals I prefer haynes over chilton but nothing beats a toyota factory service manual (fsm)

#1 may or may not have been attached to anything. my '84 has two of 3 ports capped on that valve, and my '91 has 1 of 3 ports capped.  The original factory cap may have been lost/rotted, and the vacuum line with a screw in it was how the PO sealed it off. #2 in the first pic is the egr valve modulator, the bottom port is/should be connected to the egr valve plumbing via a stem near the part of the plumbing that bolts to the head. One port of the egr valve modulator connects to the top of the egr valve, and the other connects to the BVSV valve.

#1 may be a connector for the A/C pump, or a non used connector.
As mentioned, #2 is just a filter, and yes it just hangs there.

Haynes and Chilton are barely worth toilet paper, the FSM is the best way to go.  You will find a link to a 1985 FSM here

If your hood is original, and battery acid didn't eat it up, there should be a vacuum diagram located on the  passenger side front corner.

#2 is for the dashpot.

It's not a filter.     It's sort of a one-way valve.     Allows air in quickly to the dashpot, but out slowly so the dashpot slowly closes when you close the throttle.
