1983 22R smog question* Now with pics*
« on: Apr 05, 2008, 02:37:33 PM »
ok so I found a truck I like runs and drives good, been fairly well taken care of BUT I found out today when my mechanic was looking the truck over that it wont pass emissions. Idle was ok but the high rpm was way over. The truck has a Weber, header that has the small tube That runs behind the head and a catalytic converter. The EGR is still there but the hose and airpump are gone. The truck also has Air Conditioning if that makes a difference, can you guys tell me what all I need? I really like the truck but cant see spending 3k on something I can drive legally.

he put the gas analyzer on it, it was running rich so it wouldn't pass the idle, he got that down where it should be but it was putting out too much at high idle, hes been my dads mechanic for the last 40 years so we have trusted him but like I say I'm just looking to find out all I can before I drop 3k on a truck.

Honestly I'm not sure, I'm waiting to hear back, not sure if the kid even knows since he bought the truck as is. He never looked into smog because Canyon County doesnt have to smog test.

ok so now that I have the truck I've had a chance to get under the hood a bit, I originally thought the air pump was removed but now I am thinking it has the air injection setup, but it is still missing parts, any advice? I still plan on re jetting the carb too. Also there is an O2 sensor on the header but I see no place to plug it in.

Your missing part of the egr tube that conects to the intake, and some vacuum lines, the plug for the 02 sensor should be on the driver side fender.
