« on: Sep 15, 2010, 05:54:31 PM »
I'm just wondering how others are mounting there sliders? (Flat or angled) and why they chose to mount them that way.

thanks!

Flat, angled ya you might hit the right side to slide off but you can slide onto it more.

I angled them up as you go out. I think it looks cleaner by kind of matching the bottom of the body. I also think it gives a little more side protection on the rockers when at steep side angles.

Angle just because it looks 10000 times better. I have a little over 1/2 inch between the rail and the body. I think it looks awesome. The only down side is you can't really use it as a step in and out the truck. But i'm 6' 5" so it doesn't really matter to me.

I angled mine slightly but not enough that it can't be used as a step. I wanted to be able to walk on them to get to the winch or for kids and or short people to use.

dude I don't even think he was talkin to you.  More like answering the OP.  I don't have sliders.  But If I did they'd be angled, and they wouldn't be square tube cause that looks ghey

I'm another for angled sliders.  From what I've seen they tend to slide off of rocks/trees smoother and easier than flat sliders.

Angled for sure so you don't get hung up. more importantly don't weld them to center of frame, weld them flush to the bottom I'm told it the strongest on frame.

I used 2x3 .177 wall tube.  On my truck (3rd gen) I pretty much had to do flat. They work awesome, and protect very well.  I slide right over stuff.

My wifes truck (1st gen runner) has the same tube, but its angled up to follow the body line.  LOOKS AWESOME!  Things seem to slide about the same on both, but I prefer the look of hers to mine.

I think it depends on what kind of sliders you plan to use, round tube or boxed. I used boxed and mounted em' flat, I think it works better as a step & a slider that way. When I hit em', they  hit the  bottom outside edge and have less contact with the rock. When a friend and I did his, he mounted his at an angle (also boxed) he has more contact with rocks and it dosen't work as well as a step. I think boxed  sliders look far better flat too.   :twocents:

I got round tubing that's mounted flat and is tucked just under the frame. It's actually flush with the outside. It slides great, but there's not step aspect to it. I've since removed the doors  and usually step up on the 35's to solve that problem though. No serious complaints

I got an 84 reg cab; they're flat 'cause I couldn't make 'em angled. (no body lift) They work fine; it's all personal preference. Before I finally welded them on I tacked one side angled (couldn't open the door) and one side flat... flat side won out. Plus think of when you land on something... they may bend upwards.

Do what suits you and what you run over.

Mine are flat and flush with bottom of frame, and square (ghey?) :rofl2:. Had round thought they looked....uh...........well............ugly. I'm planning on sheeting the bottoms in to the frame so I can slide................maybe adding round extensions on top angle out like everyone else.

Mine are box, and at an angle so they slide on a corner.  Less contact area, means less friction.

Mine are squared at the bottom with round tube off that angled up. Not tested yet but I'm hopeful.

angled it looks better you get more clearance and you can still use them as a step if you need too :D

The one's I'm currently building are flat with a second level that is angled up a little. It'll work as a step and a functional slider.
