Sliders
« on: Jul 12, 2008, 12:33:09 AM »
Is there some special reason that some sliders (AllPro) have that little bulge at the end? What is the purpose? Does it protect the bed or something? I have a feeling it might be a  :smack: easy answer, but it escapes me.
Why won't the DMV recognize mud as a color?

i think it is to push the truck away from the rock so the rear tire can go around it.  i have never seen them as being usefull though, seen many trucks get stuck on them.

its a kickout meant to make the rock hit the tire instead of the sheetmetal

what i wnat to know is why they are made of HREW instead of DOM considering this is a high stress part that may be supporting the truck either being stuck on a rock or trying to jack the truck up by them.....

And for that, HREW is plenty strong, depending on the wall thickness of course.

Iam running the AllPro sliders on my 85 and love them. They have saved cab from damage due to that bulge. Hrew is plenty stong as Blackdog said.

I buildt my sliders and other sets as well with that buldge. I use it as a pivot point to drag my rear axle around obsticales. I have been held up by them before, but the bennefits outweigh the negatives for me. I have never been stuck by the buldge bad enough that a slight readjustment of my line couldnt overcome.

I've always called them kickouts.  Purpose is to "kick" your rear tire away from obsticles.  I don't believe kickouts are good.  (especially if they extend out further than the tire.)  A. Would kick my tire off the line I picked.  B. When sliding on my sliders, good chance of it stoppping my forward progress when the obstical hits the kickout.

My obsticals are rocks.    I can see an advantage for a kickout for trees, but in California, they don't let us within 20 yards of any trees.  :O

Well up here in the Pacific Northwest the trees get real close to the truck. I guess they would be useful up here. Thanks guys.

My sliders are DOM     and I have a Kick out on them, I love the kick out,, It helps push the truck away off of rocks minimizes body damage and helps keep your rear axle from binding against rocks. I personally like the looks of it as well,  8) and it serves as a really awesome step (sorta like a step side bed) to stand on while getting in or out of the bed...
