« on: Dec 03, 2009, 03:13:29 AM »
Hi there im looking  :inthedark: for an exhaust to put on my truck but still be able to pass smog but i dont want it to sound like a rice rocket. im just looking for a muffle not a high flow cat. or headers.

If u do the poll plz list the kind of muffler you have be specific and plz if u have a video or audio i would like ot hear it.

Thank you   :)

Go stock manifold, cat, and cherry bomb (glasspack, not the turbo)  I loved that combo.  Right now i have header, no cat, 2-1/4 straightpipe to a purple horny glasspack and IT IS RICEY, with backfires and all.

I have a universal 2.25 cat, 2.25 pipes after cat, followed by a 2.25 (17731) dynomax super turbo muffler.

Sounded good until the muffler got a hole in the side after 10 years..........

Keep in mind that there are many things that affect the sound of the muffler.  Some of the key things are cylinder displacement (as opposed to total displacement of all cylinders), how well the engine breathes through it's intake and exhaust manifolds, presence of a cat, and what the duration of the exhaust lobes are on the cam.  These are all things that affect the sound other than the muffler itself.  Doesn't sound like you really care so much about the sound though, so long as it doesn't sound ricey.  Now that being said, a cherry bomb is almost by definition ricey.  With the way a stock 22r is set up with the manifold and a cat, I'd so go with a Flowmaster 60 series delta flow (three chamber), or a 40 series delta flow (two chamber) if you want it a little louder.  Either one would allow for future upgrades and still sound good.

That's my :twocents: anyway.

Keep it quiet, the people on the trail will like you more. Borla is quiet, so is a Dynomax super turbo and even the ultraflow.

check out a Flowmaster Hushpower2 series. Its like a glass pack, and a muffler at the same time, they come in stainless steel, so they wont rot out on ya. Ive had the same one for 4 years, put it on many a vehicle.  and always sounds good. not ricey at all, nice deep tone, and its a little more than mild for the loudness.

ill have to check that out. Ya i have a magnaflow on mine now and i dont like that way it sounds. At idle it sounds like a stock truck when i accelerate it sound in between a rice rocket and a normal truck. I like deep tone.

oh yea, the come in two different lengths as well, 12" and 18" body. im rockin the 18". and pipe size varies from 2.00 to 2.50 i believe. Flowmaster doesnt have them (which is wierd)  but you can find em on Ebay, and other websites as well. Hope it helps.

Check it out.  I got the 22RE, so it prolly sounds a lil different. but i dont think it'd be a huge difference
