I recently got the herculiner do it yourself kit. I got the kit for free becuase of the place I used to work is going out of business so I got some freebies. I got some bed rails,husky floor mats and the herculiner kit. I was wondering if painting the herculiner on my axle would look pretty descent and hold up well. Anyone know of anyone doing this? I was considering painting my bumpers with it also if I have some left. Does anyone have bed rails on there toyota? I put them up there today to see if they would look good and they looked pretty good.I also put on one of those westin grill guards. I had do make some custom brackets for it becuase of my body lift. it turned out pretty well and ill get some pics up as soon as I can .Im supposed to be getting my 35's put on this weekend also. Just an update and a few questions. $Beer Chug\'n$ all in a weekends work

Give it a shot, and lets see. I know one of the bedliner companys has a below par track record, but I forgot which one. I've seen people do their bumpers but never their axles. I cant imagnie how it would be detrimental, but you might wanna do the housing without the third in, and cover the hole. I could see sealing it being an issue if you take the hird out, and then try to put it back in and get some of the herculiner pinched between the third and the housing

I painted my sliders with herculiner, when they get dirty it looks like poo. And its harder to clean them since its so pourous, and the stuff will peel off with the first rock it encounters.

My truck has some diamond plate bedrails, they actually look kinda cool, and serve a purpose. I say rattlecan the axles, much easier to clean and touch up if there is some rock rash.

i agree screw herculining the axles they are the first thing that are gonna get bashed. id do the bed and the interior and rip out the carpet.

Putting it on the axles would be a waste. Rattle can flat black is your friend.

Well thanks for the replies about the herculiner. Im not sure what I really want to do with it. Doing the interior is a good idea though. A friend of mine has done his front and rear bumpers on his samuri and doen the floor inside. It turned out pretty well and Im kind of leaning torwards that. Ill keep you guys updated and Ill get some pics of my 35's up soon.

Dont do the axles but i did the inside of my cab with it and it holds up really good. Also makes it all rust proof from water and stuff.

do you have any pics of the inside? I also have a question. ever since i have installed my body lift i cannot get the shift boots to fit back correctly. the angle of the shifter is off a little bit and when i have the boots on i cannot shift the gears smoothly. i was thinking of trying to get a hold of the newer center pieces from the tacomas with the dual leather boots and fiberglassing them to the floor board or something. just an idea. anyone else had this same problem? and what did you do to fix it?

did you just roll it over that factory tar like sound deadener?

I wouldn't want to do the axles...hurculiner is rubber based, it will insulate the axles keeping heat in...flat black paint will allow the axle to bleed more of that heat.

I did the inside of a truck once, went right over all that foacotry crap under the rug, never had a problem, stayed down well, just prep the metal properly.

You need to sand everthing down so the liner will stick, so as long as you have a clean serface you should be ok

the likner will not disipate heat, and, it will peel off in large chunks on impact, not scratch like paint, then repair it costly and time consuming, stick with thye can o paint $Beer Chug\'n$

sand that tar stuff down? i dont think thats gonna help unless you sand it down to the bare metal, and that would take too long. i did hear of someone freezing it with dry ice and then chisleing (sp.) it off. but thw would be a pain in the ass.

I cleaned the inside VERY good and i just painted it on over the sound deadning on the floor. Dont even bother taking all that out

Definitely don't Herculine your axle housing. Can you imagine if you ever needed to weld on it?

As for Heculining the interior, you do need to remove that sound deadener tar. I found quite a bit of rust underneath that stuff on both of my rigs.

scrape most of it of with a putty knife and use a wire wheel on the stubborn spots, corners, etc...

I just stripped the inside of my 4runner to install hurculiner. Do you have to take up the factory tar on the floors or will the liner stick to it? I dont really want to scrape all of the tar off because thats gonna be a real pain in the arse. Does the hurculiner help stop rust

You need to treat the rust first.
I'd recommend taking off the factory deadener, cause it will move over time with heat, and that will ruin the liner laid down. Mine has been pushed over and there is this lump right where my heal goes. Eventually, I will scrape it off and seal it with liner. Right now I'm just living with it.
