do i need to resurface the head?

i pulled the head to change the head gasket and was wondering if i need to get it resurfaced before i put it together it was not a blown gasket i just replaced every gasket in the engine so this is my predicament any and all help is appreciated thanks :driving: :thumbs:
1983 Toyota pickup Sr5 6 inch shackle lift 33 super swampers 4:88 gears front and rear locked in the rear 22r high lift air tank tools and other junk(sold)
1987 4runner ifs 3 inch pro comp lift 33" TSL swampers and a cherry bomb exhaust(sold)

its all pulled apart wat is it i shouldcheck?

check to see that the head surface is clean ,has no scratches or pits,
but to be honest  if you didnt know(edit--what to look for) why  did you take it apart

DONT REMOVE THE PISTONS  you need a ring compressor to get them back in

I would resurface it just to be safe, then might as well replace the timing chain with steel guides :twocents:

no i was asking jon cause he didnt make sence in wat he said but i knew it was a ok gasket but it leaked oil all the time so i bought a gasket kit and have been replacing all the gaskets in the engine so i figured i would just replace the head gasket if it had it in the set so when i did my dad blew a head gasketand he started telling me that it needed to be recurfaced and i told him i would try and find out if i needed it

thats what i wanted to do but gettin layed off and starting school has emptied my bank acount out lol

I feel it is safer to do a little extra work now when you have the motor apart  :yesnod:   No reason to put this motor together and have the HG blow in 5ooo miles because you did not spend $50 on resurfacing.    :thumbs:

Resurface it always resurface it, that is the law. Might as well rebuild it while you have it off.

I don't think you understand.  If you don't resurface the head (IE do it right)  There is a high likelihood that you will be doign it again very soon.  (ask me how I know :hammerhead: )
