Gettin up at 5 am....
« on: Jul 15, 2008, 11:46:45 PM »
To start my BBQ!  I got a free turkey that the wife wants me to bbq it.  It was either practice now and see how it turns out or hopefully not ruin thanksgiving later!  :outtahere:  I got plenty of beer, and sunscreen.     I'm kinda nervous, to see how it turns out.  So, we'll see what happens!  :crossed:  I get pics of it happening!

Later!!  :cheese:

5 AM every workday...  on weekends I get lazy and sleep in, sometimes until 6 or so.

Oh snarkin big is that turkey!!??

It's all I can do to drag myself out of bed by 7am! No way I'm getting out of bed at 5am for a turkey!!

And BTW - you do know that turkey cooks faster on a grill than in the oven? Or are you smoking it?  :smoke:

7 am everyday for me!  typically get up by 6 am on a workday but sleeping in is 7 for me..

How did the turkey turn out?   I'd imagine you had to cook it at a really low temp for ALLLOONG time.

We want details!   :)

Well, first of all, it was a 20 pound bird.  :yikes:  It went on the grill to be slow smoked at 6 am.  Well, to all the internet bbq sites, they said at least 30 minutes for each pound.  Well, 10 hours later!!  :yesnod:  Just like predicted, it came out of the bbq/smoker.

And I had some help from time to time!

And in between stokin the coals, wood for smoke, and beers, I'd try to slip in a nap or two!

It turned out really good. :drooling:  And next time I'll have the wife get a smaller bird.

No, Nate, I don't think there will be any left for you to sample.  Just look at the picture and smell the smoke filled air there!

  bummer, looks frickin great!  Different smoke man, this tastes  :reg:  The smoke hasn't bothered me in the past few weeks, I actually like it, but we've had still air and it's bad enough tonight that I actually had to shut off the swamp cooler.  It was raining ash on us at work half the day too!

Shoot, I just noticed the chair.  Te51levin built one of those eons ago and it's probably still sitting at stocker's house  :haha:

Mrs Stocker says Te51levin took that chair and it was at their apartment, so it's probably in Oregon now, unless he got rid of it.

However, I do have one similar to Cheesie's!  Mrs Stocker gave it to me for Father's Day this year, so I'd have something (other than a plastic bucket) to sit on in the back yard while spending time with the dawg.   :yesnod:
