Ok a lil help here guys my truck is a 85 and it keeps getting hot I took thermostat out and that did not help. The truck has about 250xxx on it and when I got it I put new timing chain on it a gear was broke on crank . I got timming dead on with timmimg light and even put a new red top optima on it and starter drags bad (this could just mean I got a wore out starter I know) BUt my question is why it run so hot and why so hard to crank sometimes I am thinking the carb needs rebuilt? I know that does not explain the over heating problem I just very confused please help! All I ever messed with before this is sbc and when water pump goes bad on them you know it just do not know what going on. :confused:

is it small block chevy or is it a toyota motor and what temp does it get to when you say its hot and if it is past 220 then its getting warm and also what temp thermo did you have in it and you might have a bad head gasket poor timing

pc,  sounds like your cam timing is off a tooth

it is a toyota motor i had a 180 in it and it gets all the way in the red does not have # just stock gauge and pushed water out 2 times

I thought same thing but it should not be hitting dead on with timming light were it is should it? That is what it is doing by the light it shows to be perfect in time

pc,  sounds like your cam timing is off a tooth 
ya i for got to meantion that cam timing and crank timing could be off also make sure it is at tdc on compression stroke #1 piston all the way up

you could have the crank off time and distributor set right but it dont mean came and crake are right

yea pc  if  the timing chain is 1 tooth off  you CAN have the distributor  dead on

pull the valve cover,  put  crank on 0 degree timing mark,

cam  should be  just  left of 12 oclock
