well, if it works on the ground, but not in the truck, there almost has to be a clearance issue with the shifter.  did you try it on the ground with the shifter bolted up?

yes , I also was told today by another person at Advanced Adaptors that I must swap the shift rales out with the old style top shift from a 1984-88 carb 4 cyl.

then there it is.  I think they are mistaken though, any top shift rails should work.  if you get the later model ones, you just have to trim the 2/4 rod off.

edit: I just realized what you said, and that you are already top shift.  sorry, I get sidetracked.  you should be able to cut yours down...

see above

edit: I had a thought...if the case is not being allowed to go all the way into 4wd, due to the shaft length, the shift interlock pin could be causing your isssue...forcing the case to shift back to 2wd or causing it to bind up.  trim up your 2/4 shift rail and report back.it should be flush with the front of the case when in 4hi.

well I feel better just swaping them out that way if I need to put them back in for some unkinown reason I can and they will be stock again cause if I start cutting them down then I am more likely to screw up
