Re-building knuckles??
« on: Aug 21, 2007, 07:39:29 AM »
So I just rebuilt the knuckles on my 85 4runner and was just wondering how to grease them? I put as much grease on as I could when they were open, but it seems like it is a lot less than there was inside them when I took them apart. There is a square headed bolt on the top of the knuckle, is this for greasing?? Do I just fill it up with my grease gun?? Sorry for the long winded questions.

Thanks once again

yup...just unscrew and fill. i like to work the knuckle back and forth as im filling so it gets moved around.

The knuckle bearings are packed like a wheel bearing when assembling them, then remove the square plug and add about a 1/2 tube of grease to each side.

Sweet, Thanks for the replies. I will go home and do It today. I did pack the wheel bearings already, and the truck is all back together. I just need to add the grease.

Thanks again

i used a 1/2 inch ratchet extention to unscrew it. just put it on the head and use a monkey wrench or 1/2 inch wrench.
lets not and say we did.

it doesn't take that much grease at all really.  just packing the bearings and the birfield by hand before is enough.
