need some advice
« on: Aug 19, 2007, 11:39:05 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum for a while, but this is my 1st time posting. I have recently bought a 1990 X-cab 4x4 3.0 5 speed. The body is solid, but I am having problems with the center support bearing (CSB) again, and tranny. It will pop out of 1st while driving and when I am stopped I have to fight with it to get back into 1st. When shifting to 3rd I can feel a little grind in the shifter. Now that you have a little background here are my questions:

1. I heard about a conversion that will allow me to run a single main driveshaft. This allows me to get rid of the CSB. Has anyone done this? Where did you get it? How much was it?

2. I am going to be replacing my clutch soon, an good recommendations.

3. How much does it usually cost to have a tranny rebuilt?

I am not a serious off roader (yet). But from what I heard from my buddies, it gets very addicting.

Thanks in advance for you adivce and help.

Laterz
Jeremy

marlin rebuilds the best trannies... his v6 tranny rebuilds are $995 with a $500 core charge as for the clutch, marlins again are the best in the business, i have a marlin clutch in my 4cyl truck. marlin offers 4 clutches for your truck, conventional and ceramic, regular and heavy duty. they range in price from $179-274. if the truck is street/daily driven, i would recommend a conventional clutch.

as for the driveshaft, you jsut take it to a driveline place and have them make a single piece, marlin may actually be able to help with this as they recommend a vendor called http://www.highangledriveline.com/
