Engine idle with EB 268 cam
« on: Jun 29, 2007, 02:33:01 PM »
Just got everything put together after upgrading to the Engine builder 268 cam. Was wondering how you guys trucks idle with this cam. Ive got the timing dead on and the carb adjusted pretty dang good and it does have a pretty good lope to it. Also during normal driving there seems to be more vibration/rumble coming from the engine. I do have quite an exhast leak so that may have something to do with it.

But anyway, just looking for some opinions of the guys who run this cam. Thanks alot.

i guess it could have a slight lope  at a  low idle,  but im running a stage 2 LCengineering racing cam 460 lift  with 280 duration,   and it  lopes  anywhere under 1000 rpm  but  i like it

thanks buddy, yeah i dont mind the lope either. I did a little more tweaking to the valves, its alot better. Its got a slight lope under 1000 like you said about yours, sounds good though, especially out of the tail pipe. I think the rumble and vibration is my header, not sure what kind it is, probably a cheaper one, got it off a parts truck.

Anyway all is good now i believe, pretty pleased with that cam. Nothing drastic but it pulls pretty hard high in the rpms. Thanks for the help.

Hey quick question. Im only getting about15-20 psi oil pressure at idle after the engine warms up. going about 55 it will get up to almost 40. Is this normal? I must mention that i have a cheap gauge and also it drips oil where the small hose goes into the fitting, at the block. Im going to get a new one, just wondering what the normal oill pressure is for these engines. I figure its slinging oil becuase a tad bit will sprikle out of the dipstick tub while its running. thanks!

you need to be running some castrol 20-50   thats what i run during the summer

fix that hose,  if  it breaks  you can loose  all :attention: i said ALL  of your engine oil in about a mile,  dont ask me how i know

with 20-50  i run 80 psi at start up,  then  as the engine warms  it  comes down,  at 180*  at idle  i have about 40psi, on the  road   around 50-60 depending on rpm,
when the weather gets cooler i switch to 10-40  but  NEVER  USE WALMART OIL

Gotcha man. I was wanting to go to a thicker oil but i didnt know whether or not it was ok. Whats the different in that 20-50 than 10w30? just thicker? thanks again

Hey man, did you have to rejet your carb? Im running the same carb as you and i got to reading about the correct adjustments...

so i went out and double checked mine, and it says if you have to turn the mixture screw out more than 2 turns then you should rejet to larger jets. Well i reset the mixture and idle screws and before it will run right i have to turn the mixture screw out about 3.5 to 4 turns. Just curious. I mean it runs great but it does feel alittle rich, not the best throttle response i feel i could/should have. Thanks.
