Pressure washed my engine and now it has a rough idle.

85 22re.  Has a real choppy idle and starts rough after I washed it.  Checked the usual stuff-no hoses knocked off, no plugs undone, no water inside the distributor cap, no water iside the air flow meter.  Anyone have any suggestions?

It has always been moisture in the distributor cap when I have had that problem.
I have gone to using dielectric grease on the rubber seal to the dist. cap, that seems to help a lot here in rainland.

Mabey you have a small hole or leak in somthing that water could have gotten into,  Yur fuel injector's, fuel pump, fuel filter.  But if water was the case, it would eventuly go away, at least you think it would??  Mabey it's somthing electrical :confused: .  i will do some thinking  :headscratch: .

Upon closer examination, there was some moisture in the cap near the little botton where the spark comes in.  I'm letting it sit open for a while, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to try another coil and igniter.  Thanks for the ideas!

A hair dryer works good to get the moisture out. I used to use my girlfriends until I moved her out :gap:

my expierence letting it runs does nothing. cotton swabs are the ish on a toy cap :thumbs:

just for future reference, when you go to pressure wash your engine again, do this.

take the cap off, put paper towels inside of it, close it back onto the distributor, then cover it with a plastic ziploc bag & either some wire, zipties, or even some string, to tighten the bag down over the capr & distributor.. Just remember to not hit it directly onto the bag, cap, etc. otherwise the same problem will arise. Also, don't forget to take the paper towels out, either.

 Spray a little starting fluid in the cap, let it evaporate, and your ready to go.  :twocents:

good to here :)     I think we all have had this problem do to the cap being vented.  I my self like to use carb cleaner then blow dry/ WD-40 helps to      + if your board one day grab a tube of die-electric grease and hit the whole wire harness   makes it easy trouble shooting when U run across a deep water hole. ;)

hey also have the engine runnin...... then you can have a general idea why it stops.... ya get what im sayin.... say u got the engine runnin and your sprayin it... and its runnin fine, until you start sprayin around the distributer..... then you have the general idea were to start lookin!!! :wave:  :beerchug:

PUT SOME ULTRA BLACK AND SILICONE THE CAP TOGETHER SO WATER CANT EVER GET IN JUST MY TWO CENTS

i work for  an auto auction and this happens all the time when we get cars detailed. we have even had to take the plugs out and spray some are in the holes and leave them open to dry.
I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~

WD40 is allso go for cleaning up fresh over spray    & wiping down the hoods/fenders/tires of cat backhoes   so they look all :bling:   befor we send them to be sold :rant:

I use marine CRC 6-56 the same way as WD40 to dry stuff off. That stuff is as good as it gets for that.
