the infamous weber carb swap
« on: Feb 08, 2007, 04:03:39 AM »
I have been looking at a few different model carbs, most of them being the DGV 32/36. Is this the carb I should be looking for? Also I have read that this is the same carb as the Holley 5200, is this true? also I have seen many variations on DGV DEGV and DAGV, are these all misprints, or are they acctualy different carbs? Is the carb I need the same one that pops up when I type weber 32/36 into ebay and get carbs from pintos, BMW, and datsuns? thanks for any help that is offered

webers  can be found  everywhere,  just like carters  and Holleys

for a stock 22R  a 32-36  is ideal

Yup.  Those are the same model carb with different kinds of chokes.  I am running the 32/26 with an electric choke.  I don't know about everyone else but the electric choke seems to need adjusting alot.  Sometimes it comes on and sticks when I don't want it to, sometimes it dosen't work when it needs to...  JKust something to think about.

Thank you for all of the reply's. How does this carb do on angles and hill's? Wondering if I should waste my time with the carb or swap out my 20r for an injected motor. Thanks alot.

I never ran mine with the stock carb (missing when I got it), but mine works pretty good off-road. My choke doesn't work, but I got the carb used. So far I've too lazy to fix it. The electric choke on my DD works great with no issues so far. I bought that one new.

I had a DVEG 32/36 on my nissan, the only thing that I had problems with was the throttle return springs were to weak!  I had to get heavier springs, and I had to keep a couple of spares, cause the bracket that the spring attached to would wear through!  The only other thing about my weber was that is took awhile to get the choke dialed in right!  I remember, that it took three years to get it dialed in and never had to do anything with the choke since!  And it seemed that you had to readjust the idle and fuel mixture setting in the spring and fall!  Which was really easy!  One other thing that helps too is to put thread locker on your adjustment screws or they tend to work out!

As for off-road angles, I never had any problems with traversing alot of old neglected roads, but I never did any rock crawling with it.  But you might want to direct that ? to Marlin, cause his old 22r/20 motor had a weber on it for a long time, before going to the 3rz!  I'm been looking at the holley 470 series!  Designed with serious angles in mind!  If I remember right, they guarantee 30 to 40 degree angles in all directions!
