Weber Carb
« on: Mar 22, 2005, 03:54:22 PM »
:help: Anybody have any experience with Weber carbs, specifically a K746.  I have an 85 pickup that needs some minor tuning.  My carb seems to be running a little bit lean, it hesitates when I punch the gas.  It also requires premium fuel to run smoothly.  I live in Washington State very near sea level.  What jets should I be running?  Most of the time the carb work very well and even handles the angles and dangles of Moab fairly well, it will start on Dump Bump no problem, just blows some black smoke.  I am getting 17 mph average with 33's and 4.88 gears so I can't complain about that.  Please pass along any advise.  :help:
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

have ya checked for vaccuum leaks?  Mine runs like crap when some of the vaccuum line plugs get old and start to crack.  I keep a handle full in my ashtray just for that reason.  Maybe a good old fashioned tune up would be a good start. I just put a newer motor in my 85 nissan, went from a 2.4 napz to a 2.0 without changing the jets or adjusting anything and no problems.  Also, check the set screws, mine tend to back out real easy, causing mine to run rich at times!  And I have to adjust mine for the seasons too!  In the spring and fall I have to adjust the choke and the idle!  Hope this helps out!
