You'll find better information for this issue on Pirate.

Yeah, I almost got banned for voicing an opinion about a certain vendor.

OK, first of all, you're gonna want to get rid of the factory dual-mass flywheel and replace the whole thing with a solid flywheel and clutch.  DMFs are expensive, (1200 for the flywheel alone)and usually are not reusable/resurfaceable.  You can pick up a complete conversion kit at NAPA for about 400-500(IIRC) if your local store doesn't hose you too bad.
If you want specifics, or any more info, lemme know.

What kind of mods are on the truck?  Guesstimate on horsepower/Torque?  What kind of load does it usually tow?  Stock or Lifted with big tires?

A lot of questions I know, but all play an important part in a clutch choice.  I've heard good things about South Bend clutches (I think that's the name...).  You might also call Brians Truck Shop- they're in Arkansas or Alabama- can't ever remember which.  They deal mainly in Automatics but may have a killer setup on a clutch for a manual.

Price is also going to be a consideration.  If you've gotten 100,000+ miles out of the stocker, and they're affordable, it may make sense to stick with a stocker.

he has the edge programmer, and the juice box is on its way, it also has a k&n intake, and the muffler and resinator are gone, with 4 " exhaust, and it is gonna be used to pull a 16 ft bumper humper with his 85 4runner

Better look for a slightly upgraded aftermarket clutch with those mods.  He *should* turn the boxes down for towing, but either way, he'll be making more power than stock and will need a better clutch.

Have him call ATS in Aurora Colorado- they can set him up with whatever type of clutch he wants, and one that is suitable for his uses.  I've done quite a bit of business with ATS and have always been impressed with their products and customer service- and thats on my old IDI diesel.  I hear that their stuff for the more modern Powerstroke and Cummins trucks is top notch!

They're not too bad- I've had mine out to replace a leaky rear main seal in my 1992.  Be warned:  That transmission is HEAVY!  You can remove the transfer case to eliminate some weight, but it won't take much off as the t-case is all aluminum.  You will absolutely need a tranny jack.

On my old Ford, I had to remove the shifter, and the part of the floor where the shifter comes up (pulled back the carpet and removed a zillion screws to get the plate off) to allow the tranny to come back enough to drop off the pressure plate.  I don't know about the newer Superduties, but you might look into that as well.

I had/have the fortune of working as a Master Mechanic at a Toyota Dealership, so I was able to use my lift and the shops equipment to get the trans out of my truck.  I'm not sure I'd attempt it again in the driveway on my back...

ive helped my buddy do a clutch on his 94 4wd cummins, so if its kindof like that it shouldnt be too hard, im not sure if i want to use my harbor freight tranny jack, but it held up the nv4500 and aluminum dodge t-case just fine, but i guess the exhaust is in the way.
The clutch should be here in the next week so i'll let u know how it goes.
