1st gen junk yard seat recommendations
« on: Oct 26, 2006, 09:25:18 PM »
Looking for recomendations on what you have used in the way of seats from junk yard. 1st gen's have so little leg room and seats can't be too bulky. If you have pictures, please post.

Here's what I did, the seats are out of a 80's Camry they fit real nice and you can set them up with these brackets or just put them in. If you just put them in without the brackets they sit real low in the truck so you'll have lots of head room and adequate leg room. If you are under 6' then do the rear brackets to your height, the taller the bracket the more leg room will be created. The brackets were made from 2x1 square tube. I set my rear to the floor with no bracket and the front with the bracket and I'm 6'2". I had plenty of leg and headroom. The passenger side had the front and rear brackets, the rear was on the 1 inch side of the tube to boost my Co-Pilot's view.

If you just throw them in as is without the brackets you will have to re-drill the holes, but the bracket is pretty close to the same. Just make sure to use some strap metal from side to side on the rear bolts so that you won't break throught the floorboard. If you look at the rear brackets you'll notice they are drilled for both the 1 and 2 inch settings that what you can easily re-set the hieght.

I used a 60/40 bench out of a 89 to 93 pick up. workes real nice and bolted right in. I tried some celica seats but they were to uncomfortable to get in and out of. they had some cushions for side support that made it diffucult with the lift.

86 nissan 300zx.  Fit with minimal mods and are very comfortable.  I'll try and snap some pics tomorrow of the mounts, but it's basically bolted to the floor on one side and has a small riser front and back on the other side.

I am liking the Saturn seats. I decided today that I am going with junk yard seats to save some money and put it somewhere else for my build up. :driving:

Didn't see supra seats listed.  Almost a bolt in.

i had supra seats in my last 79, and they were a pain in the butt, the drivers seat was over 50 lbs and everytime i had to remove it  it sucked, but all the power controlls were nice

Supra seats DO bolt in... I think one tab has to be bent a tad.

If its going in a gen1 4Runner - the passenger side needs ONE rear hole drilled (the other hole is already there for some reason)

Of find a "r icer" car in the rad and get the Recaro seats and an Recaro bracket from Recaro... (What I have in mine)
yeah yeah - still IFS...
