Axle guts
« on: Oct 27, 2006, 04:35:34 AM »
I have access to an 82 front axle, which is bent, and is thus not really useable for much, but I'm curious if anyone knows if the bearings, brakes hubs would be transferable to an 85 solid axle as spare parts?

Thanks in advance,

Erik :usa:

All the parts will work.  Unless you REALLY need a toy axle, though, I wouldn't waste time getting it fixed.

if you can get it for cheap or free then do it.  you will ALWAYS need spare parts from it.

I would love to get ahold of a bent axle after getting a few measurements off of a bare straight axle.  I have some theories on straightening a housing and checking it for straightness.

Sorry a little off topic.  I would get it if you can cheap.

Cool, thanks, I actually have plans on cutting it up, and using the ends for a spare tire carrier, and that way I have all the parts to rebuild an axle end on the trail if needed. I wouldn't have to worry about them bouncing around in the back of the truck this way.

Thanks for the input everyone.

is there anyway to straighten a housing while its still mounted up in the truck? Found mine was bent when I went to put in new birf and inner into drivers side on a 83 axle.
