30 mm nut lose on my output flanges

like the title says I'm working on my dual cases this is the rear top shift out of a 1980 truck and the 30mm nuts where lose on the front and rear output flanges ! should I worry or just tighten them back up and install it ?

You could just tighten them back up, but be shure and stake the nuts this time.

You need to make sure to also tighten it to the proper torque specifications.

I don't think so, I have seen it happen to other people before with no problems.

it wouldn't hurt to take the nut off and check the flange mating surface for wear. If its been driven like that for along time it make have wore oblong and would cause a leak.

that nut should have a spot where you crush the outer edge inward so it doesn't spin free.

The seal could possible be bad but otherwise I'd say grab a good breaker bar with you socket on the end and REAP on that thing. I've talked to guys @ Marlins and when they assemble cases, they use the impact on the highest setting so you're not going to over torque that one. Then like has been stated, stake the nut into the slot that's cut into the output shafts. That will keep the nut from backing off again.

Thanks for the info guys !! I'll get it fixed up tonight ! The weird thing is they were staked but I can still move them a little ? I'll retorque and stake them again after replacing the seals !
