Where to beef up and where to lose weight? ? ? ? ?

Hey Guys___ I have an 84 4Runner it weighs 4400lbs.It has 35's with 529's and stock births and axles up front. My question is, since it weighs 4400 lbs., at what point(weight wise) should I consider beefing up the front end (you know longs.,crompoly etc.) and if the front end is beefed up .would it make a difference for that weight. Also any ideas of WHERE to shed weight?____ THANKS BAYRUNNER

First off, go find a public scale, weigh your front axle weight, then your rear axle weight.

shed weight by bobbing the back of it.  You should also need to gain weight by beefing up the frame were your steering box mounts. rock sliders and bumpers are a good idead too.  could also cut any unused brackets off the frame, but that won't take that much weight off.

You could lose some weight by taking off the fiberglass shell and replace
with like a can-back soft shell

really depends if its going to be street legal or not..Weight can be taken off the rear,,and some off the front from a dove nose..Other then that your pretty much stuck..what you cut off you will add tube more then likely..

I would get the cromo birfs and axles and enjoy beating it..I was worried about weight but your still going to be soo close to thet weight I don't think your really going to get away with much..the top is a heavy Biotch so thats a good start..I cut my top in half and lost alot of weight..You might get it down to 3850 if your lucky but I doube it will be much less then that..

Longs, chromo's, etc are not going to change your weight enough to be worried about it.  What kind of wheeling do you do would be my first question?  I used to carry almost a whole truck as spares (starter, alternator, welded chunk, rear axle, all front replacements, knuckles, fluids, etc. etc.) and break rear and front axles at the Hammers.  I took the spares box out of the rig and mounted it to the trailer, and my breakage went way down.  Now that I'm a Formula Toy, even less breakage has occured.
